Another Crypto -Theft to Watch out For: ‘WebCobra’ Malware Spotted by McAfee
A dangerous Russian malware named ‘WebCobra’ has been discovered by a research team from the computer security company, McAfee. The famous antivirus company claims it to be a lethal crypto jacking malware that steals the computing credentials and power of crypto investors to mine two currencies – Moreno and Z cash – secretly.
Experts believe that the recent rise in the theft of crypto mining is the cause the gradual spike in the prices of crypto currencies. The hiked prices have brought in a venomous wave of cyber criminals, who use malware and other viruses to hijack computers of unsuspecting crypto users to mine crypto.
Countries Affected: South Africa, USA, Brazil
“It’s a Russian malware, and it silently installs the Claymore’s Z cash miner or Cryptonight miner into the PC of the victim. The two mining software are alternated, depending on the configuration of victims’ machine,” says a source at mcafee.com/activate
The source further revealed that, on x86 systems, ‘Web Cobra’ injects the Cryptonight miner code into a running process and then launches a process monitor. On x64 systems, the malware first checks the configuration of the GPU and then downloads and launches Claymore’s Z cash miner from a remote server.
